A thread is thrown through two nails located on the same horizontal line, to the ends of which weights of mass m each are attached (Fig.). A load of mass M is suspended from the middle of the thread and allowed to fall without an initial speed. Determine the greatest distance to which the load M will fall, assuming that the length of the thread is sufficiently large and M < 2m. Ignore the friction of the thread on the nails.
